Health & Safety Policy



Introduction

People with dementia and their carers face a long and difficult journey and often feel lost and alone. Our aim is to enrich their lives by 

give them the support and normality they all desire which creates self-respect, self-worth and inclusion. 

Music, especially singing, has the power to help unlock memories. Music reaches out and is enormously effective. It brings joy not only to the person with dementia but their carer.


The Butterfly Café provides a safe and happy environment where people with dementia and their carers can enjoy company and home-made refreshments


They feel comfortable and their memory loss is no longer an issue, they can enjoy Music and the Butterfly Cafe with friends who care and understand. 


The camaraderie that develops is outstanding and they can enjoy talking together brings a relaxed and delightful experience. People matter.

Safety is of paramount importance and the points below highlight the steps taken to safeguard the clients, carers and volunteers. 


Commitment to Health & Safety

Avon Valley Dementia Support show a commitment to Health & Safety for all their clients, carers and volunteers. 


  • This includes Full details of client

  • Type of dementia – stage of dementia 

  • Other medical conditions – Name of GP and Surgery

  • Details of next of kin plus additional emergency contact number

  • Mobility, Continence, Allergies, Hearing and Sight.

  • Phobias if any?

  • All volunteers who collect clients are DBS checked every two years.

  • All Trustees are DBS Checked every two years.

  • Any person undertaking a one to one must be DBS checked every two years. 

  • Training is given to all volunteers in Understanding Dementia


                       First Aid Training is regularly up dated.      

                       Covid-19- No client may attend the Groups unless 

                                   they have had the double vaccine.
