 Avon Valley Dementia Support

Equality and Diversity Policy

Introduction

People with dementia and their carers face a long and difficult journey and often feel lost and alone. Our aim is to enrich their lives by give them the support and normality they all desire which creates self-respect, self-worth and inclusion.

Music, especially singing, has the power to help unlock memories. Music reaches out and is enormously effective. It brings joy not only to the person with dementia but their carer.

The Butterfly Café provides a safe and happy environment where people with dementia and their carers can enjoy company and home-made refreshments

They feel comfortable and their memory loss is no longer an issue, they can enjoy Music and the Butterfly Cafe with friends who care and understand.

The camaraderie that develops is outstanding and they can enjoy talking together brings a relaxed and delightful experience. People matter.

Safety is of paramount importance and the points below highlight the steps taken to safeguard the clients, carers and volunteers.

Equality, Diversity and Commitments

Avon Valley Dementia Support is dedicated to encouraging a supportive and inclusive culture amongst everyone associated with the charity.

Our aim is to ensure that all persons involved with the charity in anyway are treated equally. Everyone will be respected regardless of their position within the charity.

The policy reinforces our commitment to proving equality and fairness to all regardless of age, disability, gender, reassignment, marriage, civil partnership, health, race, ethnic origin, colour, nationality, national origin, religion or belief, or sex and sexual orientation. We are apposed to all forms of unlawful and unfair discrimination.

Volunteers will be given training which will help and encourage them to understand the people we aim to serve; people with dementia are vulnerable persons and need complete respect and understanding. Carers are also vulnerable and carry a heavy burden; a listening ear is at times very important.

Out policy will be monitored and reviewed annually to ensure that equality and diversity is continually promoted within the charity.
