Born in 1938 and Having spent all my working life in the Textile Industry, I never felt any interest in dementia or capable of understanding a person with dementia. Thanks to many of my friends that I've met who are affected by dementia, training etc, I have found a most enjoyable way of spending my retirement and have been involved with AVDS and other dementia charities for over 8 years, enjoying every minute. I strongly recommend volunteering with charities like AVDS if you want to make a difference and at the same time enjoy spending time with some of the nicest people you may wish to meet. When my friend Mick, turns to me and says,"It's Magic", I know my time has been well spent and he and I have enjoyed ourselves. Dementia with AVDS is not about doom and gloom, it's about having fun, support and caring.
